10-foot-long python loose in Fla. neighborhood

ST.PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 10-foot-long Burmese python was spotted in a St. Petersburg neighborhood over the weekend, and it is still on the loose.

Resident said some familiar critters in the area have disappeared. One man said he's been feeding squirrels for the past 15 years, but they're gone.

The resident said he believes the python ate the squirrels.

Experts believe the python was someone's pet, and they either released it or it escaped.

"These animals get so large that people don't realize how big they get, and they are not able to accommodate their needs anymore," said python hunter Brian Pavlina.

Pythons are known to eat small animals and birds.

Many residents have chosen not to walk their dogs at night anymore, until the snake is captured.
