MELBOURNE, Fla. — A warrant sweep in Melbourne on Tuesday targeted convenience stores that have allowed criminal activity, police said.
The stores are in the same area where two men were shot on University Boulevard and a car was found covered in bullet holes two weeks ago.
The victims in the case declined to prosecute, but the shooting was one of the latest incidents that have police focused on the area.
By 4:30 p.m., police said they arrested 11 people and seized gun and drugs.
Police said the stores helped create “cascading problems of drug sales, drug use, violence and other crimes.”
The sweep was part of a joint effort with Brevard County deputies, West Melbourne police, the Game Over Task Force, border patrol and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Police said they will release more information at 10 a.m. Thursday on the warrant sweep and the University Boulevard shooting.
