120 apartments to be added in Parramore as part of revitalization project

The Parramore Oaks apartment complex will add 120 affordable housing apartments near Westmoreland Drive and Gore Street, and developers said they want to hear from families who live in the neighborhood.
"I'm glad they are making change around here," neighbor James Brown said.
Many families told Channel 9 that the addition to the housing development is a step in the right direction, but it is long overdue.

"They have been saying for a long time that they are going to do this and they are going to do that, they have not done nothing yet," neighbor Maria Valentie said.
More than 20 ago, the city of Orlando promised to revitalize the Parramore neighborhood.
Through the years, there have been construction crews working to revamp roads, add a new kindergarten through eight-grade school, a new professional soccer stadium and a new Orlando Police Department Headquarters.
"Well, I think it's a positive because they need it. There's a lot of these homes that are old. It’s good for it to be a new home for them. It’s better for them," said Valentie.
The first phase of the project will begin in early 2018 and will be ready in 2019.
The second phase will be an additional 91-unit development nearby.
"I'm glad they are adding more housing and keep this place clean," Brown said.
