2-county chase of homicide suspect ends with fiery RV crash, officials say

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A man authorities said led them on a two-county chase in a motor home that burst into flames in Brevard County is recovering in a hospital.

Investigators said the chase began in Indian River County on Sunday and shut down a portion of Interstate 95 in Brevard County.

Investigators said the man in the RV was being sought in connection with a homicide in Vero Beach.

Brevard County sheriff's deputies released helicopter video of the chase that reached speeds up to 85 miles per hour.

"Don't let any more cars come in,” deputies said over radio traffic. “I’m going to block the on-ramp."

Deputies used two sets of stop sticks to bring the driver to a halt. A tire on the RV fell off and the driver continued to go until the RV began smoking.

The driver jumped out of the RV and onto the median of the interstate.

"Get everyone away from that van, it may explode. Those tanks are right up front,” deputies said.

Moments later, the RV caught fire.

Deputies quickly arrested the man. His name has not yet been released.
