2 dead after shooting that ended in fatal roll-over crash, deputies say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Two people were killed Sunday after a shooting that ended in a serious crash on 23rd Street and South Westmoreland in Orlando, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

The shooting and fatal roll-over crash was reported at about 12:20 p.m.

According to the OCSO, two vehicles were seen shooting at each other about a half-mile from the crash scene.

A black truck was driving away at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, crashed and turned over, deputies said..

A woman was seen trying to climb out of the truck as it sped away prior to the crash, a witness said.

When the truck crashed, it rolled on top of her and pinned her underneath.

The woman, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"(The) truck flipped over, (and the) female, from what we understand, was really trying to get out of the car as it was fleeing at a high rate of speed, and she apparently got pinned under it once the car flipped," Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jeff Williamson said."We do not know at this particular point in time what happened and why those shots were fired. We don't have any indication right now."

A man was pulled from the truck and taken to the hospital, where he later died, the sheriff’s office said.

Area resident Ennis Williams said he heard several loud popping noises and then a large bang.

"I was lying down in the bed and heard something like firecrackers," he said. "'Pow, pow, pa-pow.'"

The law enforcement response was massive, he said.

"Police cars (were) coming from everywhere," Williams said. "I mean, nine or 10 of them from every angle you can think of."

Resident Linda Stewart was terrified when the gunfight broke out as she left church Sunday morning.

"I thought, 'Oh my goodness, I'm coming from church to go to work and I'm going to get shot,'" she said.

Stewart saw one of the shooters as he opened fire at another vehicle.

"I noticed a black gentleman in a white hoodie, hanging out the passenger side of the truck and I heard, 'Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop,'" she said. "It was scary. Very scary."

Several bullets were found to have punched through the wall of nearby Grace New Covenant Church.

"There was people in there and the bullet ... it could hit someone in the chest, the head, whatever," said Trevor Williams, who was working security at the church.

The other vehicle involved, described as a blue sedan or hatchback, fled the scene, investigators said.

It was last seen driving west on Orange Blossom Trail, deputies said.

No other information was immediately released on the shooting and subsequent crash.
