2 weeks later: No arrest in 11-year-old Orange County girl's kidnapping, sexual assault

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — More than two weeks after Orange County deputies said an 11-year-old girl was kidnapped and sexually assaulted, no arrests have been made.

The incident was reported between 7:10 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. May 8 near Forest City and Riverside Park roads, deputies said.

A sketch was released of the possible rapist days later.

A spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office told Channel 9’s Michael Lopardi that there was nothing new to report and that the investigation is ongoing.

“When I saw the sketch on the door of the store, I honestly, I think I recognize that person, but I can't place who it is,” parent Virginia Davis said.

More than two weeks later, Davis said she’s still waiting for news of an arrest.

“If anybody's going to commit a crime, especially against a child, I think that… I would like for them to be apprehended as soon as possible so they're not threatening our community anymore,” Davis said.

Deputies said the victim was waiting for her school bus near the Magnolia Court Apartments when the man pulled her inside a blue- or purple-colored car, drove off and raped her. She was able to get away and reported the incident at school.

“When someone's attacked, I mean, that could happen to my children,” neighbor Robert Atkins said.

Atkins said children frequently walk alone in the area.

“We want them to get to the bottom of it, because if they don't get to the bottom of it, it might strike again,” said Atkins.

About a half dozen neighbors told Eyewitness News that they’ve seen additional patrols in the area since the incident.
