$825K project would add 100 parking spots for beachgoers, Volusia County officials say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Summer beach crowds are already showing up in Volusia County, and with them comes an influx of vehicles.

All those vehicles need a place to park, and residents and tourists alike say it’s getting tough to find a spot.

To help alleviate the parking problem, county leaders are looking at a plan to add 100 parking spots within walking distance of the beach and Daytona Beach’s tourism core.

The project would cost $825,000, but residents didn’t seem to mind the price tag.

“Go ahead and build it now, reserve it for the future generations to enjoy,” resident David Creech said.

Resident Terri Lynch felt the same way.

“Holiday weekends are packed, weekends are packed, parking is a hard thing to get to,” she said. “If you don’t want to drive on the beach, you’re going to be stuck looking for parking for quite a while.”

County leaders were expected to vote on the parking expansion during a meeting Thursday morning in DeLand.
