89-year-old Volusia County man killed by downed power line, deputies say

DELEON SPRINGS, Fla. — A DeLeon Springs man was killed Monday morning after touching a downed power line that was sparking a fire behind his home, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said.

Emergency workers were alerted to the power line, which had been pulled down by a fallen tree in the 6000 block of State Road 11, at about 7:58 a.m.

Minutes later, they received another call from someone saying Marshall Bailey, 89, was lying on the ground dead next to the crackling power line.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Major Case Unit was investigating the death.

An autopsy will be performed on Bailey to confirm the cause of death.
