9 Investigates: Airport Authority tickets drivers at OIA loading zone

ORLANDO, Fla. — 9 Investigates found out the Airport Authority is ticketing drivers at Orlando International Airport’s loading zone.

A woman contacted Eyewitness News after she received a ticket for parking in a loading zone, days later, in the mail.

Peggy Stevens said she was picking up her daughter and family last month and was warned to keep moving, so she circled around again.

"Then they (her family) texted me and said they were in passenger pick-up,” Stevens said.

After she swung in to pick up her family, she didn't think much of it until days later when she said she received a citation in the mail.

The citation was linked to a photo of her car stopped with brake lights on in the loading zone.

Channel 9 found four other citations written around the same time.

The parking citations are issued by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.

On Tuesday, the authority cited one driver who remained parked in the loading zone for nearly 20 minutes.

The airport said when drivers do that it’s a safety and traffic issue, and with such a busy airport they need to keep people moving.

"There's no reason for that. I was totally shocked when I got a ticket from the airport,” Stevens said.
