9 Investigates: Violent felon found working at Deltona gun store, federal agents say

DELTONA, Fla. — Jose Sanchez-Rosado has a violent history and has spent time in prison for domestic battery by strangulation and bank robbery, officials said.

That didn’t stop him from landing a job at a Deltona gun store where he sold guns and even “provided tactical training in the use of firearms for customers,” a federal affidavit said.

After an investigation by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, he was arrested and is being held at the Seminole County Jail without bond.

Private investigator Joe Irizarry said he spent time with Sanchez-Rosado doing tactical training, but realized something didn’t add up and cut ties with him.

Irizarry was surprised by how brazen the 43-year-old convicted felon was about his interaction with guns, which included him holding a rifle in his Facebook profile picture.

“He’s not hiding who he was. He’s not hiding his Facebook,” Irizarry said. “He wasn’t telling anybody, ‘Hey, I can’t be in public because if they see me.’ No, it was just open.”

ATF Special Agent John Scanlon said it is illegal for Sanchez-Rosado to even be around guns, let alone handling, selling and firing them.

“He’s prohibited from possessing firearms in any manner, also including ammunition,” Scanlon said. “Whether it’s just holding onto it for a few moments or being in the same room or same business with firearms.”

The store where Sanchez-Rosado worked, GSC Tactical, is now closed.

The ATF said that gun stores are not required to do background checks on employees.

“It’s a good business practice to do a background check on employees, but it’s not required by federal law or regulation,” ATF Industry Operations Director Aaron Gerber said.
