APOPKA, Fla. — The Apopka City Commission voted Wednesday to reject a $60,000 settlement agreement with a former city administrator who was fired after his involvement in a hit-and-run crash.
Richard Anderson was fired from a $22,000-per-month lobbying contract in 2016 after he was involved in a head-on hit-and-run crash that seriously injured another driver.
After the firing, the city filed a breach-of-contract suit against Anderson.
He filed a countersuit against the city.
Wednesday’s vote would have ended the cases with the $60,000 settlement, but three of the five commissioners refused to OK the agreement.
Commissioner Doug Bankson voted in favor of the agreement, arguing that if the case went forward it would cost taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars.
“This is one of those things that’s unfortunate for the city, and my heart is to see us heal and more forward,” Bankson said.
Anderson accepted a plea deal in the hit-and-run crash and was sentenced to more than three years of probation.
