Apopka family waits months for city to finish work on driveway

APOPKA, Fla. — An Orange County homeowner said she’s fed up with some city work that’s blocked part of her driveway for months.

She said the city of Apopka ripped up the sidewalk that runs across her driveway in February and never came back to fix it.

“This is how it’s been sitting since right about Valentine’s Day, so coming up on three months now,” said homeowner April Slipsager.

She said it started with a leak.

Apopka city workers came out and found a burst pipe, ripped out the concrete and fixed the pipe within days.

That was 11 weeks ago.

“It’s just been too much time at this point. We waited. I thought for sure after four to six weeks, they were just backlogged,” said Slipsager.

Slisager called the city four times and then she said a worker came out to see the damage, promising a fix this week.

That was Monday and the mess is still there in the driveway, surrounded by orange cones.

A spokesperson for the city said in an email that the city is, “Getting quotes for the restoration work” and Slipsager and her husband could get to use their driveway in its entirety again as early as next week.

“Come and put the sidewalk back in so we can park in our driveway,” said Slipsager.
