Brevard County: Deputy-involved shooting under investigation in Cape Canaveral

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deputy-involved shooting Sunday evening.

The shooting happened around 8:18 p.m. on Caroline Street at the Palms East Apartments after reports of an armed robbery in the complex, deputies said.

The victim said Trevor Gingras, 19, pointed a gun at him and demanded money. The victim was able to run inside an apartment and call for help, deputies said.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said when deputies arrived at the apartment complex, Gingras "turned on the deputies," so a deputy shot and killed the man.

The deputy is on paid administrative leave, which is routine during deputy-involved shootings.

"It was less than 80 feet away, and I knew the individual who had the attempted robbery on him. He's doing okay, but he was shaken up," said resident Charles Sullender.

This is the second deputy-involved shooting in Central Florida on Sunday.
