Brevard County pharmacy shut down by state, investigators say

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Channel 9’s Cierra Putman found out the state has just issued an emergency order, shutting down Mim’s Discount Pharmacy.

The owner, John Oni, is accused of selling hundreds of prescription pills to customers, and even to an undercover DEA agent, investigators said. He’s also accused of overcharging for drugs.

The pharmacy was raided on Friday, according to people who work nearby.

Although the pharmacy was shut down last week, Putman walked right into the business.

“Is the pharmacy still open? When was it closed?” Putman asked.

“I'm not talking to you,” said a man who claimed to be Oni’s lawyer.

Eyewitness News read through the emergency orders for suspension from the Florida Department of Health. It showed DEA agents started watching Oni and Mim’s Discount Pharmacy in 2010.

Court documents detail how DEA agents and informants got Oni to fill fraudulent prescriptions of oxycodone and other drugs. One agent got 112 oxycodone pills, and reported that the pills were overpriced, investigators said.

Agents also report Oni and staff did not follow the law and track purchases of Pseudophedrine, which is required by law.

The DEA said it's still deciding whether to file charges in federal or state court.
