Cafe Bustelo, Pilon brand owner investing $5M in expansion

NEW ORLEANS, Fla. — The Folgers Coffee Co. plans a $5 million expansion in eastern New Orleans as parent J.M. Smucker Co. continues consolidating coffee production.

Smucker spokeswoman Maribeth Burns tells New Orleans CityBusiness (http://bit.ly/1aIm1oF ) that a new $3 million administration building will have bigger offices, not more people.

Building permits show the company also plans a $2 million expansion at a production warehouse on Chef Menteur Highway.

Burns said Folgers is adding a new packaging line and storage for products acquired in 2011 with Rowland Coffee Roasters of Miami, including Hispanic brands Cafe Bustelo and Cafe Pilon.

Folgers plants in New Orleans and Lacombe also make Dunkin' Donuts and Millstone coffee brands.

Smucker's coffee production was consolidated to the New Orleans area as part of a $70 million move announced in 2010.
