Car burglars in Rockledge becoming more brazen, residents say

ROCKLEDGE, Fla. — Rockledge police said that at least four vehicles were broken into overnight, including one at nearby Wuesthoff Medical Center.

Residents said that over the weekend, several unlocked vehicles were broken into.

"I’m really hoping that they catch whoever did this because it's just frustrating," said victim Debra Pruitt.

The most recent burglaries, though, showed the thieves were getting more brazen, as they broke out the windows of locked cars instead of targeting unlocked ones, residents said.

“It's distressing. It's distressing they're hitting all the neighbors up and down," said victim Sharon Kelly.

One neighbor found a wallet that had been discarded in the street.

Van Orman said the theft was not nearly as frustrating as having the window of his truck broken out.

“I haven’t done nothing to it because the cops want to take fingerprints and all. So I don’t know whether they got anything out of it or not,” he said.

Residents also said cars parked at the nearby hospital were also broken into, but police did not immediately confirm the claims.

"It used to be when I first moved here, I didn't even lock the door. Now, you don't even know if a locked door is any good or not," Orman said.

Police said they are hoping hospital surveillance video will help catch the crooks.
