St. Cloud toddler in critical condition after near drowning

ST. CLOUD, Fla. — A child is in critical condition following a near drowning in St. Cloud Saturday evening.

Emergency crews responded to a home on Missouri Avenue shortly after 8:00 p.m., officials said.

According to police, a 2-year-old child was playing in the backyard of the home without supervision. She apparently climbed up a ladder on an above-ground pool and fell into it, police said. The victim's mother later found her unresponsive in the pool.

The toddler was airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where she is in critical condition. Officials said it's unknown if she will survive.

St. Cloud police said they are actively investigating the incident.
