Child in car stolen near day care, police say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A child was in a vehicle when it was stolen Friday morning near an Orange County day care, deputies said.

The incident happened around 8 a.m. at the Saint Mark Children Enrichment Center on Covington Street.

A school administrator told Eyewitness News that a boy, whose age wasn’t released, is OK.

Investigators said the thief forced the child out of the car before they took off.

Parents told Eyewitness News that they often drive to the roundabout to drop off their children or park and walk their children to the day care. The car that was stolen had been parked while a parent was walking their child to the day care.

A woman, who didn't want to be identified, told Eyewitness News her car was stolen at the same day care months ago.

"This just happened to me two months ago. I have over $7,000 in damage," the woman said.

Orlando police have not said if the thief drove away with the child in the car, pushed the child out or if the child just climbed out before the thief drove off.

The stolen car was later recovered, but police did not release the location.

No other details have been released.
