City of Ormond Beach investigating possible cyberbreach

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — The city of Ormond Beach is warning people of a possible cyber breach that could impact more than 190 customers.

A spokesperson for the city said Friday that people began reporting fraudulent activity on their credit cards after using the city's online website to pay their utility bills.

A customer discovered unauthorized credit card charges Sept. 22, a city spokesperson said.

The city on Wednesday received notification from a major credit card issuer that 175 of its customers had fraudulent activity after using the city’s online website.

A spokesperson for the city said they’ve been unable to find any evidence of a breach, but as a precaution, the city’s online payment system was shut down Oct. 4.

The city partners with a web payment vendor, Superion, to provide customers the ability to pay utility bills online using a credit card.

The city asks residents to monitor their credit card accounts if they paid their utility bill Aug. 14 through Oct. 4.

Customers should report any unauthorized charges to their credit card company and file a complaint here.

Customers can also file a report with the Ormond Beach Police Department by calling Detective Hamilton at 386-676-3517, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
