City staff approve Universal's plans for old Wet 'N Wild site

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando municipal planning board approved Tuesday Universal Orlando’s plans to redevelop the former Wet N’ Wild site into a resort complex with up to 4,000 rooms next week.

Plans for the site show Universal plans to put two parking garages along the sections bordering International Drive, with one right at the corner with Universal Boulevard.

City planners released a report last Wednesday recommending approval of the resort complex with one major condition: The parking garage at the corner of Universal Boulevard must have facades that hide its purpose.

City planners also require the plazas at the corner of Universal Boulevard and International Drive be visually appealing and act as a gathering spot for pedestrians, the report states.

Universal proposes building a transit stop at the eastern corner of Universal Boulevard and I-Drive to meet this requirement, according to the report.
