WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. — A man accused of approaching members of a high school dance team at a Winter Springs McDonald’s and asking if they were dancers at a local strip club could face criminal charges, police say.
The incident happened as members of the team stopped to get something to eat at McDonald’s before practice, one of the girls’ mother said.
“She had on her dance team shirt and he said, ‘Oh, do you dance naked?’” the girl’s mother said. “And she is like, ‘No, we do not. We are a high school dance team.’”
The inappropriate questions soon turned into inappropriate touching, she said.
“Then he asked one of the girls, ‘Can I help you fix your clothes?’ and she said, ‘No,’” the girl’s mother said. “And then he proceeded to adjust her tank top and even moved her shorts some.”
The man, who was not identified by police, left the restaurant soon after speaking to the girls.
They told their parents and the girl’s mother decided to warn other parents about the man in a Facebook post.
“It’s definitely a reminder that it can happen anywhere and I am just glad they are OK,” she said.
The Facebook post caught the attention of Winter Springs police Chief Kevin Brunelle, who said police have had run-ins with the man in the past but never had enough cause to charge him with anything.
By touching the girl’s tank top and shorts, he could now face criminal charges, Brunelle said.
“To do into that type of dialogue with somebody, it was creepy to the young ladies,” he said.
Investigators were considering filing a charge of simple battery against the man, which would hopefully lead to getting him some court-ordered help, Brunelle said.
