Deadly Osceola County incident involving mother, child still a mystery

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — New information released by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office does little to answer the question of how a mother and daughter died.

Latifa Lincoln and her daughter, Maksmilla Lincoln, 3 were driving on the Florida Turnpike in Osceola County on June 2, when their white Porsche SUV stopped and bumped into a guardrail. The two were found dead inside.

Records show the mother and daughter had no idea their life was about to end.

A phone message left by Lincoln just before her death showed they were headed out of town.

"Hi, uh, Hi. Listen, I'm driving to Miami so I can't text you back.”

Days after the crash, Channel 9’s Shannon Butler reported a receipt was found inside the SUV that indicated the vehicle had some recent repairs. That is part of the investigation.

Dispatch calls show that law enforcement officers immediately called hazmat teams because a foul odor was reportedly coming from the SUV.

Reports show that the three law enforcement officers said they were exposed to a smell of ammonia and formaldehyde.

Fire department sources told Butler that Lincoln and her daughter had signs of carbon monoxide poisoning, but preliminary tests didn't find the gas inside or, frankly, anything else.

The medical examiner has not released the cause of death for the victims.
