Detectives first became aware the guns and knives were missing Oct. 13 when Robert Carter, who owns them, asked his sister to check on his after a tree fell on it during Hurricane Irma.

Carter, 58, who suffered a stroke a year ago and is bedridden, moved into a rehabilitation facility in September.

Investigators say Gorman began pawning the firearms at two local pawn shops in April.

Detectives were about to trace the weapons because Carter kept a list of their serial numbers.
