Democratic VP nominee campaigns in Central Florida

CENTRAL FLORIDA, Fla. — Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine is spending debate day in Central Florida.

It’s part of a multiday swing through Central Florida in which Kaine will try to shore up support for Hillary Clinton’s presidency, against poll numbers that are just too close to call.

Latino faith leaders told Channel 9's Field Sutton they want inclusion and want a United States for all kinds of people.

They said they’re not publicly endorsing a candidate in the presidential race.

A roundtable discussion was held Monday during which church leaders from all over the country invited both sides to come and talk about what's important to evangelical Latino voters.

Evangelical Latinos make up a voting block that's estimated at about 6 million people. Many of them are undecided in the presidential race.

Kaine talked at length about immigration policies. He told the crowd he wants reform to include deportation only for people who are a danger to the country, not deportation en masse, as he put it.

Kaine is calling on Republicans to stop making immigration reform a partisan issue. He cited reforms under then-President Ronald Reagan that had support across the aisle as his idea of how to get things done the right way.

"We need to build a community of respect a community where all can be respected. You can be respected based on your choice of how you worship or not. You can be respected based upon whatever national origin, whatever language that you speak,” said Dr. Gabriel Salguero, with Iglesia El Calvario.

Kaine was also in Lakeland Monday morning.

He said he’s looking forward to Monday night’s debate, and that he’s convinced Clinton will beat Trump now that the two are facing off head-to-head with pointed questions.
