Florida Mall shooting leaves 1 dead, 19-year-old injured

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County deputies are investigating after one person was shot and killed in the Florida Mall parking lot Friday night.

Deputies said they responded to the west entrance of the JCPenney at Florida Mall at about 7:20 p.m., where a man was found dead next to a car in the parking lot.

He has been identified as 20-year-old Andrew Garland.

They were responding to reports of a man with gunshot wounds, and said there were no reports of shots fired.

Deputies found the second victim, identified as 19-year-old Samuel Destin, with gunshot wounds about 100 yards from the car where the first victim was found.

The man was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he is in critical condition, recovering from surgery.

An area of the mall parking lot was blocked off, and a heavy law enforcement presence was at the scene throughout the night.

No other information was released.
