Deputies: Seminole deputy fatally shoots girlfriend, self behind gas station

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A Seminole County deputy fatally shot his girlfriend and himself Friday evening at a gas station near Kissimmee, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said.

Daniel Carrero, 40, shot Mistie Reynolds, 33, before turning the gun on himself shortly after 6 p.m. at the Speedway at East Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway and Shady Lane, OCSO spokeswoman Twis Lizasuain said.

A store employee found the couple’s bodies in a car behind the gas station, Lizasuain said.

Carrero had worked for the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office for 16 years, a spokeswoman said.

Two of Carrero’s neighbors, Maria Sosa and Andrew Dever, said they often saw him walking his dog at the Astor Park apartments near Winter Springs.

“He was very professional,” Dever said. “He would say hi when he saw us.”

The couple said Carrero volunteered as a security guard at the apartment complex.

“I kind of liked him,” Sosa said. “He was pleasant and helped us out.”

Sosa, who said she once fled an abusive relationship, said she reached out to Carrero when she became suspicious domestic violence was occurring in a neighboring apartment.

Channel 9 asked SCSO if Carrero had been disciplined in the past for domestic violence.

A spokeswoman said that information wasn’t immediately available but that officials are currently reviewing Carrero’s personnel file.

The shooting continues to be investigated.
