OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A man is accused of placing a skimming device at an ATM in Celebration.
Anderson Alves-Ferreira told investigators that he and others working with him chose a SunTrust bank ATM to place a skimming device because they wanted to put it an affluent area to steal bank account information.
Last month, an unknown person placed the device to steal ATM card information and a small camera that could be used to capture the customers’ PIN.
Eight hours later, investigators said Alves-Ferreira picked up the equipment.
The next day, the same unknown man placed the devices on the same ATM, so Osceola County deputies watched and waited, and then caught Alves-Ferreira when they said he tried to pick it up again.
Alves-Ferreira is a Brazilian citizen, and investigators said his job was to send the account information back to Brazil.
Deputies said Alves-Ferreira planned to gather the information for about a month before returning home.
He’s facing federal charges, and the Secret Service said it’s an ongoing investigation.
