Disney workers to vote on pay raise

Disney workers are expected to vote Tuesday about a proposed pay raise.
The unions were setting up ballot boxes in the morning in many break rooms on Disney property.
The three largest unions want workers to vote "no.”
Some of the workers believe what Disney is offering is simply not enough to support families.

Disney officials said cast members deserve a raise, which is why they're offering one along with a bonus.
It’s a 6 percent to 10 percent raise over two years.
Travis Joyner has worked at Disney for 12 years.
He wants more than Disney's proposed 50-cent hourly raise for those who don't work for tips, and a $200 ratification payment if the contract is approved.
“It's not enough to support families,” Joyner said.
Disney is proposing to keep the starting rate at $10 an hour and health care costs would not increase.
That's even after workers rallied in October for a minimum of $15 an hour.
“I mean, we have cast members living in hotels with their families,” Joyner said.
The unions represent workers in housekeeping, ride operations and the food and beverage department.
The three major unions representing 75 percent of Disney employees are recommending members vote no.
“I feel good it's going to be voted down,” Joyner said.
But the president of United Food and Commercial workers is recommending his 6,000 members take the deal.
Joyner believes after the vote, the fight for more money will continue.
“We've got to bring it up to a living wage. We've got to be able to support (our) families,” he said.
Workers will be voting Tuesday and Wednesday.
Leaders with the three largest unions are expecting to go back to the bargaining table.
