Dog expected to survive after being shot by Seminole County deputy

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said it will pay for vet bills after a deputy shot a dog Thursday afternoon.

Deputies said they were serving an arrest warrant at a home on Holliday Avenue in Apopka when a dog at another house jumped toward a deputy.

The deputy shot the Catahoula mix in the nose.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment and is expected to survive.

Deputies said the dog had been within its rights to protect its property and the sheriff’s office is paying for the bills.

The dog’s owner, who asked not to be identified, said the dog barked at the deputy twice before she heard gunfire.

The subject of the arrest warrant, Leticia Robinson, was never found.
