Drivers asked to pay attention to warnings signs around Lake Mary sinkhole

LAKE MARY, Fla. — Safety officials are urging drivers in Lake Mary to pay attention to the roadblocks, which are meant to stop them from driving into a sinkhole.

The sinkhole opened up last month on Sand Pond Road.

Public Works officials came to the spot to put new caution tape up because people were driving through it and ignoring the warnings.

People were also seen moving cones so that could get through.

Officials believe it’s going to take a lot longer than previously thought to fill the sinkhole.

The city of Lake Mary is getting bids from companies to do the work.

Once it begins and the sinkhole is filled in, they’ll have to let the grout sit for 30 days.

Then they can start repaving, painting and rebuilding the sidewalks, so the area isn’t expected to be open again until January.

New cracks were found in the sinkhole recently, but otherwise, the sinkhole hasn’t grown in the last few weeks.
