ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County woman found what appeared to be a grenade inside a bank-owned home that once belonged to a U.S. Marine veteran, investigators said.
Stacey Bolenbaugh was not sure what she was carrying out of the house on Hart Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon, but it scared her.
Her first thought was “to put it down and call the police,” she told Channel 9’s Ty Russell.
Emergency personnel shut down North Hart Boulevard near Colonial and Powers drives as they investigated the device.
It was later determined to be a dummy grenade, likely designed to be used by the military during training, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.
The incident was reported at about 6:24 p.m. and investigators determined the suspicious device to be inert by 7:11 p.m., deputies said.
Once the scene was cleared and the roads were reopened, Bolenbaugh went back into the home to finish working.
“I didn’t know if it was a real one or not,” she said. “They said it’s better to be safe than sorry.”
