Facebook threat prompts investigation at Tavares school

TAVARES, Fla. — There's been yet another security scare at a central Florida school.

A student's Facebook post, saying there was going to be a fight on campus Friday and that there would be a gun involved, brought deputies out to Tavares Middle School, authorities said.

Deputies took no chances and were waiting for students when they arrived to school Friday morning.

Half a dozen deputies were on campus before school, and they were able to find the student who allegedly was going to bring the gun.

Detectives said they believe none of the stuff posted online was true.

Since the sheriff's office believes the Facebook post was a lie, they are now looking for the person, likely a student, who put the rumor online, and there could be a possible criminal charge.
