ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The family of a woman hit and killed by a car Thursday night hopes someone will come forward and take responsibility.
Investigators said the person who killed Nastaskya Galvin left the scene.
Galvin’s family held a candlelight vigil Friday, where they said an arrest will help bring some closure.
The family has many questions about why someone would leave her in the street to die.
"They could've just stayed, you know, stayed. She might have lived,” said the victim’s mother, Sandra Townsend.
Investigators said someone hit Galvin on Orange Blossom Trail near 23rd Street.
"We just want that person to come forward, to (fess) up. To come face my granddaughter, her daughter, and explain to her why they left her mother in the middle of the street,” said Townsend.
Family surrounded by friends gathered where it happened to leave cards, candles and a colorful stuffed animal as small tokens to represent the life that was taken.
"She had her hard times and her own demons, but she still did not deserve to be hit and left in the middle of the road,” Townsend said.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers believe they found the car involved in the hit-and-run.
"She was the best mom ever,” said Galvin’s 12-year-old daughter, Zymauriah Galvine.
