Fatal crash shuts down I-4 west at St. John's Bridge

DELTONA, Fla. — The west lanes of Interstate 4 in Deltona were all blocked Wednesday following a fatal crash near mile marker 106.

The crash happened near the St. John’s Bridge just before 1 p.m.

Authorities said one person died in the crash.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a semi-truck was stopped on the shoulder of the highway and the driver was under the vehicle doing maintenance.

That’s when they said another semi-truck carrying marble crossed two lanes of traffic and slammed into the back of the stopped semi-truck.

That driver had minor injuries.

The driver who was working on his vehicle died.

Traffic appeared to be backed up for miles.

Drivers were asked to get off at Dirksen Drive in DeBary toward US 17-92 to get to Seminole County. Drivers can get back on I-4 at Seminola Boulevard.

The roadway has since reopened.
