Father kills wife, son, second son escapes, Orlando police say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Officers with the Orlando Police Department responded to a double homicide Thursday afternoon after a teenage boy called 911 to report his mother and brother were shot by his father, officials said.

The incident happened at a home on Lake Champlain Drive, near Lee Vista Boulevard, in Orlando.

The teenage son called 911 and said his father shot and killed his mother, who was in her 50s, and his brother, who was in his 20s.

The teenage son was not hurt, police said.

Minutes later, the alleged shooter also called 911 to report the shooting, investigators said.

None of the individuals involved were immediately identified.

Demi Rodriguez has lived in the neighborhood for about 13 years and said he's never seen anything like this before.

Rodriguez and other neighbors said they would regularly see the man accused in the shooting wearing what looked like medical scrubs on his way to work.

"Every morning I would make that stop at the stop sign and say hi to him," Rodriguez said. "He's always outside drinking his coffee (and) walking his dogs."

After the man called 911, OPD crisis intervention experts were called to assist in the response.

"Specialists were able to talk to him for between five and 10 minutes and were able to get him to peacefully surrender," OPD spokeswoman Michelle Guido said.

Rodriguez said he never saw any signs of violence at his neighbor's home.

"It's beyond my imagination why somebody would do that," he said.

Investigators did not release the suspected motive behind the shooting.
