FHP: Tire separation sparked fatal Groveland crash; Driver identified

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Two people are dead after a tire separation led to a crash involving three vehicles in Groveland Monday evening, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Yuan Yao, 37, was driving a 2002 Ford van eastbound on State Road 50 when her tire separated and she veered onto the grassy shoulder, FHP said in a report.

The Orlando woman overcorrected and traveled into the westbound path of 60-year-old Mike Miller, striking his 1999 Dodge pickup on the left side. Miller's injuries were fatal.

Trenton Howard, 21, was behind Miller driving a 1993 Toyota pickup and struck the woman's van on the right side.

Howard incurred minor injuries.

The woman and Miller were not wearing seatbelts, according to a release. Howard was.

The intersection of State Road 50 and Lee Road was blocked.

The crash is under investigation.

Blood tests for alcohol are still pending for Yao and Miller.
