Fire at Ocala home where 2 men were shot investigated as arson

The Ocala home where two 18-year-old men were shot last week caught fire Tuesday, police said.
Ocala Fire Rescue is investigating the blaze that started at 2:09 a.m. as arson, police said.

Jeffrey Scott and Marcus Cooper were shot at the home Northwest First Avenue near Northwest 21st Place last week after a man was badly beaten during an off-campus fight following a sporting event at Vanguard High School.
Scott died and Cooper was hospitalized in critical condition.
Police said the fire is directly related to the shooting and that a resident who was burned in the fire was involved in the shooting investigation.
"We can't share details concerning that involvement at this stage in the investigation, but that will be forth coming," said Megan Shay with the Ocala Police Department.
Both cases are under investigation.
No one was injured in the fire.
No other details have been released.
