Fire in wooded area of New Smyrna Beach contained

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — A fire was burning dangerously close to homes in New Smyrna Beach on Tuesday afternoon.

Volusia County firefighters were trying to keep the flames back from homes on Ropers Way.

Officials said they have 90 percent of the blaze contained.

Skywitness 9 flew over the scene, where large plumes of smoke and flames were coming from the area.

Officials said a prescribed fire got out of control.

No injuries were reported.
