Deputies: Man who shot 2 arrested after 5-hour standoff

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 50-year-old man accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend and then critically wounding his boss was arrested early Saturday after a five-hour standoff with deputies, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

Manuel Feliciano is accused of fatally shooting a 45-year-old mother of two outside her Azalea Park home. Deputies said the two were previously in a relationship.

The woman’s 7-year-old daughter called 911 shortly before 5:30 p.m. Friday after finding her mother’s body near the driveway of their home on Yucatan Drive near North Semoran Boulevard and Lake Underhill Road, Capt. Angelo Nieves said.

Pena Vicenta, who owns the home, said she allowed the woman and her two children to move in with her a year ago because they had nowhere else to stay.

Vincenta said she recently saw the woman argue with several men outside the home. Neighbor Luis Jimenez said someone also recently smashed her car’s window.

Investigators said Feliciano then drove 12 miles to his boss' home on 2nd Street near Forest City Road and Edgewater Drive in Lockhart, where he shot the 34-year-old man shortly before 6:45 p.m.

The man, who hasn’t been publicly identified, was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Deputies said Feliciano was fired earlier in the day.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., deputies located Feliciano, who had barricaded himself in a nearby home on Annandale Avenue, Nieves said.

Residents were evacuated from at least 30 homes in the neighborhood.

“As deputies approached the location, the suspect made himself known and fired rounds from within the residence and stuck a firearm through an opening and began firing on the deputies outside,” Nieves said. “Two deputies returned fire causing the suspect to retreat back into the residence, still firing.”

A SWAT team entered the home after midnight and arrested Feliciano, who was treated at a hospital for injuries.

Feliciano faces murder and attempted murder charges.

He’ll be booked into the Orange County Jail once he’s released from the hospital.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the exchange of gunfire and the Sheriff’s Office is also conducting a review of the incident.

The two deputies who shot at Feliciano were placed on administrative leave, which is standard for police-involved shootings.
