Former DeBary mayor files motion to argue job reinstatement case to judge

DEBARY, Fla. — A former Volusia County mayor said he wants the chance to argue in front of a judge to get his job back.

Clint Johnson is suing the city of DeBary after the City Council ousted him after allegations that he violated the city charter by giving orders to staff.

Johnson's attorney said they want to have a chance to argue their case in person in front of a judge rather than just submit written arguments.

He said if granted, the motion they filed would allow them to do that.

Johnson launched his YouTube channel called Mayor's Maxims.

Johnson said he hopes to share the "truths" he's learned about life with others.

“Through all these adventures, I've lived by a set of maxims and picked some up along the way. Now I feel like it's time to share these honorable pearls of wisdom,” said Johnson.

Attorneys filed a motion on Johnson's behalf earlier this week in his pending lawsuit against the city of DeBary to be reinstated as its mayor.

Johnson would not comment on the case, but his attorney said there's no specific time frame for when the judge must act by.

However, the attorney believes the judge will move quickly on their motion.

The city has not released a comment.
