Former Rockledge councilman accused of shooting into man's car

A former Rockledge city councilman denies he shot into another man's vehicle on Tuesday, but he is still facing charges.

Ralph McCoig is a licensed real estate broker, a former Rockledge councilman and the suspect in a shooting into an occupied vehicle near the corner of Seminole Drive and Barton Avenue in Rockledge.

“He has numerous businesses, he is a pillar of the community, he has no criminal offenses at this time. When he was apprehended, he had no weapon on him and we're pleading not guilty to all of the charges,” said his defense attorney.

Police said they responded to a 911 call in which a man said someone he knew fired at him while he was inside his car.

Officers have yet to find anyone else who witnesses the shooting, but they recovered physical evidence.

Investigators are also checking to see if there’s surveillance video that captured the shooting.

Police said the two men have a history.

The men are currently in civil litigation over a property dispute.

In court documents, McCoig claims he advanced the victim in the criminal case money to close on a land deal, but says that man didn't make good on their agreement.

McCoig's attorney told the judge Wednesday he is not a flight risk.

McCoig was granted a $15,000 bond.
