Gov. Scott approves construction funding for downtown UCF campus

ORLANDO, Fla. — Gov. Rick Scott approved funding Tuesday for the construction of the University of Central Florida's campus in downtown Orlando.

UCF president John Hitt said the campus is one of the most important milestones in the school’s history.

“We appreciate Gov. Scott’s support and his sharing our belief that UCF Downtown will transform the lives of our students and the future of our community. UCF, Orlando and the state will benefit from this decision for decades to come,” Hitt said.

Dale Whittaker, provost of UCF, said the campus not only expands the second-largest university in the country, but breathes life into the downtown area.

University of Central Florida President John C. Hitt released a statement which read, "This is one of the most important milestones in UCF's history. We appreciate Gov. UCF, Orlando and the state will benefit from this decision for decades to come."
