Clarke beats Damiani to take Orange County Commission seat

ORLANDO, Fla. — Pete Clarke has been elected to the Orange County Commission, according to Orange County Supervisor of Elections Bill Cowles.

Early Tuesday afternoon Cowles announced that the county's canvassing board completed a manual recount of precincts in commission district 3 and certified Clarke as the winner.

The final results of the race had Clarke with 33,228 votes to challenger Lui Damiani's 33,158.

Damiani was appointed to the district 3 seat, currently held by John Martinez, after former Commissioner Mildred Fernandez was arrested on corruption charges in 2010 .
