Lakeland man gets life sentence for fatally stabbing wife on Mother's Day weekend

LAKELAND, Fla. — A Lakeland man was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison for killing his wife in front of their two children.

Michael Finn, 47, was sentenced after pleading guilty to murder as part of a deal with prosecutors. He had been facing a possible death sentence.

Authorities said Finn stabbed wife Kristen Finn, 34, last year on Mother's Day weekend as she tried to flee their Lakeland home on Scottsland Drive.

The first deputy to arrive said he saw Kristen Finn running toward a neighbor’s house with stab wounds, and Michael Finn holding a knife while running after her. The deputy said he witnessed Michael Finn stabbing the victim again.

Kristen Finn was taken to Lakeland Regional Health Center where she died.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
