Man, 84, threatens jurors, deputies at Orange County courthouse, investigators say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An 84-year-old man is accused of harassing jurors at the Orange County Courthouse, deputies said.

Julian Heicklen is also accused of making online threats on Facebook that involved shooting deputies at the courthouse, investigators said.

Channel 9's Jeff Deal found out Heicklen said he planned to be at the courthouse on Monday and asked his Facebook followers to shoot any deputies who come within 15 feet of him.

"The sheriff's office, without going into detail, has plans in place to deal with situations just like this,” said WFTV legal analyst Belvin Perry.

Perry, a former chief judge at the Orange County Courthouse, was subject to threats when he was in office. He said he knows that the sheriff's office takes such threats seriously.

Heicklen was arrested and trespassed from the courthouse in 2011 as well. He was arrested for contempt of court for handing out fliers telling jurors that they don't have to follow the law, which violated an order issued by Perry.

When Heicklen showed up at the courthouse on Monday, he was arrested.

“It's very disturbing. We've seen across this nation there have been random acts of unprovoked violence against law enforcement officers,” Perry said.

Heicklen is being held without bond.
