Man accused in fatal hit-and-run returns to Florida for first appearance

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The man accused of intentionally running down a motorcyclist and leaving him at the scene to die is back in Volusia County on Wednesday.

Daytona Beach police said Roger Martin's bike is seen being dragged by Christopher Moore on surveillance video during the fatal hit-and-run.

Moore, 19, was arrested in Valdosta, Georgia, on Friday and was brought back to Central Florida Wednesday to face charges.

A judge doubled Moore's $20,000 bond during his first appearance.

"I just can't believe she would give that man a bond. I know he's young, but he killed my kids' father and left him dead on the side of the road. It's not fair," Heather Staffa said.

Police said Moore hit Martin, 41, intentionally with his van and then fled to Georgia, where he attends high school.

"(Moore) continued his school week like nothing happened. (He) went home (and) told all his friends about his vacation. I don't get it. I don't understand," Staffa said.

Police said Moore, Martin and their friends got into a fight outside a bar and Moore went after Martin. Police said Moore told his friends that "no one messes with this murder gang."

Moore's parents said he is not in a gang but otherwise would not comment.

Moore's attorney told a judge Moore has no criminal history and that his charge of leaving the scene of a crash with a death warrants a bond.

He said Moore wishes to go home to graduate high school.

Prosecutors told the judge Moore will likely be charged with homicide.
