Man arrested, charged with Orange County murder more than 10 years later

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A man accused in an Orange County murder that happened in 2003 has been arrested and charged with the crime.

Ramon Gonzalez was named a suspect in the murder of Nizaar Jaber years ago, but was never caught, according to court documents.

Jaber was fatally shot in his MetroWest apartment by home invaders who were disguised as pizza delivery men.

A friend who witnessed the shooting told Channel 9 he was relieved to learn of Gonzalez's arrest.

"I actually hovered over him as he took his last breaths," said the friend, who didn't want to be identified.

The Dr. Phillips High School graduate was 23 years old when he was killed.

Authorities said that Gonzalez, 41, was recently picked up by U.S. Marshals and booked into the Orange County Jail.

"He had 10 years to enjoy his life, and now his life is done as he knows it," the witness said.

Investigators said Gonzalez evaded arrest using a fake identity and was even working as a cable installer.

"(He) was doing things that a normal person would do because he felt at that point he was safe enough to do so," a U.S. Marshal said.

Authorities said it was new, undisclosed technology that helped them track down Gonzalez.

"There's definitely closure now that I know he's off the streets for sure," the witness said.

Gonzalez is being held at the Orange County Jail with no bond.
