Man dies when car strikes tree near Kissimmee

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A 53-year-old man was killed and 51-year-old man was seriously injured early Saturday when a car struck a tree near Kissimmee, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Jorge Gonzalez-Medina and Daveanand Gualbance, both of Kissimmee, were driving east on Boggy Creek road near East Lake Road shortly before 1:30 a.m. when Gonzalez-Medina lost control of his 2012 Toyota Corolla, FHP Sgt. Kim Montes said.

The car traveled down a grass embankment before it struck a tree, killing Gualbance, Montes said.

Paramedics brought Gonzalez-Medina to Osceola Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Troopers continue to investigate what caused him to lose control of the car.

It’s not yet known if alcohol was a factor in the crash, but charges are pending against the driver, troopers said.
