Man crashes SUV, flees from Orange County deputies

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An east Orange County apartment complex was used as a hiding place for a man who ran from deputies, officials said.

Eyewitnesses said the incident began during a traffic stop.

Deputies said the driver was trying to pull over along Woodbury Road, but somehow flipped his SUV right in front of the Woodbury Presbyterian Church.

As a deputy approached to help the man out of his car, he suddenly took off running

The unidentified man scaled a chain-link fence at the Waterford Pointe Apartment complex, deputies said.

Officials said the suspect hid in an apartment until K-9 dogs forced him out.

"The police were after him with the shotguns," said eyewitness Mohammed Gad.

The man was led to a deputy's cruiser in handcuffs in front of several stunned residents. The man had no shoes on, just socks.

An Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesman said he was unsure why the man ran off from deputies in the first place.
