Man on galloping horse gets DUI in Bunnell

BUNNELL, Fla. — A Flagler County man riding a horse was given a DUI, WFTV learned on Friday.

Officers said 29-year-old Charles Cowart was intoxicated while on the galloping horse.

Police said for more than five hours, Cowart led them on a chase in downtown Bunnell.

Authorities had to stop traffic and a train on US-1 when he rode onto the tracks.

The chase ended when Cowart's father, Chuck, caught up to him and tackled him off the horse.

"That's my son and he's mentally depressed and the family is behind him and we've got him where we can help him," said Chuck Cowart. "The horse is absolutely OK. He's no tireder than a cowboy would be after he got off a day's ride in the cow woods."

Cowart got away again and ran into swampy woods, but was chased out by a police K-9.
